Spring Has Sprung: Part 2

We received a lot of comments yesterday about Greenwich and Cambridge New York, so we decided to share some more photos of these perfect little villages. Whether in-town or in the countryside, the landscape and architecture are amazing.

Spring Has Sprung

Seemingly sprung in Manhattan, Spring led us upstate this past weekend to the towns of Cambridge and Greenwich, New York (think Elpheba when pronouncing the latter). Though we left yellow daffodils and pink magnolias in bloom at home, woodsmoke greys and mustard colored grasses still abound up there. We have to tell you, in our quest for a antique home to call our own, these towns have really intrigued us. Picturesque, historic and inhabited by communities that take pride in their architectural heritage, we found the best of New England in our own backyard.

Colonial Modernism

We were first introduced to Corey Daniels last year during an antiquing trip to Maine. We were blown away by the entire experience--the beauty of the antique house that he transformed into a modern gallery, his collection of vintage machine molds stacked into bold cityscapes, a minimalist curated space to shop and drawn inspiration from...and of course, his own warmth and humbleness that immediately made us feel welcome.

When we saw that the New York Times featured Corey in the Home section last week we were thrilled. For those of you that missed it, here are images of Cory's own home on Drake's Island and his gallery space in Wells.

Hello Easter (Almost!)

We're a Passover and Easter kind of pair, so this week we gave Easter Egg dying a whirl--with natural and organic dyes that is! Eco-Kids's vegetable based dyes produce beautifully muted colors that range from taupe to canary, moss to denim. Of course, no Easter Egg story would be complete without chickens. And no body does chickens better than the brilliant Grant Wood.

Another World

A search for New York designers lead us to 2Michaels on Central Park West. We love the range of mid-century pieces throughout their work, and the little hits of color that accent an otherwise neutral palette. The subtle use of blue in these cream spaces made us think of the silky gradations of color in the Discovering Mars series at the Lumas gallery in Soho.

The 80's, the 90's, Tina Chow and Us

We love Tina Chow's iconic style, Katsura Funakoshi's figuration and Sheila Metzner's palatte and development technique. Our original intent for this installation of H&G@H was design and art in the late eighties and nineties. "Too broad" (although we have other installations to follow) was our conclusion, so we'll simply write that whether the artists were Japanese or whether they were influenced by the Japanese, their interpretation is sculptural and straightforward with a quiet beauty that is refined, rather than reserved.
