Earth Tones: A Summer's Peak at Autumn

A morning stroll, a look at the sock/shoe combo in the Club Monaco Window on 57th Street, and a color story was born. We adore mixing warm and cool earth tones; granite and camel, mushroom with slate, bronze on pumice. The references are everywhere, from dumpsters to store windows. Here's what we found...

Stay Calm

We are experiencing technical difficulties at Hunters & Gatherers at Home, but like the calm waters off the coast of Wells, Maine....we are calm and cool.

'Round New Hampshire

While puttering around New Hampshire (and Vermont) again this weekend we stumbled upon the 34th Annual Orford Flea Market--an amazing collection of vintage and antique vendors gathered on the town green to sell their wares. It was the perfect way to start a day filled with larger antiques (homes that is), and inspired us to think about shape and color...

Framed

We love collections...art, baskets, candlesticks, everything. When we saw this wall of antique frames at Seymour Antiques this weekend we knew we had to share it. The impact of repetition is surprising, especially with inexpensive items used in a non-traditional way (without art that is).

Playing Games

South Netherlandish
Ink, tempera and metal gold & silver foil on pasteboard

Funny enough, we both have a secret fascination with playing cards. We're not card sharks, nor have we ever even played a game of cards together, but after seeing the 15th century pasteboard cards at the Cloisters this summer, our secret was out. We both use to by cards on our travels as kids and we both still look as adults, although we haven't bought a deck in years. We love how the style and art changes region by region, decade by decade, and how this timeless game has endured centuries. To be honest, we never posted our photos from the Cloisters since the lighting was so bad, but yesterday we came across photography by Christian Tagliavini that was such a great fit, we decided to go for it.

Union Square Farmer's Market, Novatny and Licht...The Colors of Our Summer

One of us was lucky enough to walk to work through the Farmer's Market in Union Square yesterday morning. There's nothing that brings a smile to one's face like the colors and textures of farm-fresh fruit in perfect blue-green cartons. The ripe color saturation, the pattern of the displays...form, composition and palette at its best.

Flora, Grant, New Hampshire...The Art of Our Summer

A quick trip to New Hampshire, during a glorious weekend of temperatures in the 80's, yields roadside shots of corn rows, lambs ear growing around reflective balls and artistic inspiration. See some the art of our Summer...
