Hans Coper's Swinton School Wall Mural

We feature potter Hans Coper and artist Fraser Taylor on today's blog...the highlighted Coper's work is at auction at Philips de Pury & Co. in London in a few weeks and the Taylor works are long time favorites. Why do we pair the two? An innate reaction, we suppose, to marks and forms created by years of discipline and minutes of hand-work. Taylor's elegant lines create a sense of space and movement, but no volume. Coper's work is it's antithesis, voluminous and biomorphic, his vessels imply function and nature....the evidence of humanity understood through process.

Skinner recently had some lovely silhouettes at an Americana Sale. We're always curious how something so simple can be so intimate, even a hundred or so years later. Deborah Barrett's artwork has always felt the same to us...somehow a historical document and an intimate portrait at once. See for yourself:

While flipping through old issues of magazines, we found a feature on the house of Danish artists Anna and Michael Ancher. The Anchers aesthetic was remarkable as evidence in their artwork and home. It seemed they lived in that beautiful place where work and home, passions and trade are truly integrated. It's what we strive for and most admire!

Mannequin
