Flickr Flicker

Sometimes one finds a flicker of wonderful in the least expected places, at the least expected times. Xenia Elizabeth's Flickr pages are a fine example of this. We were surfing for images of Fraser Taylor's work for an upcoming blog and happened upon XE's photos of an exhibit of his. Delving a little further, we found photos with a palatte, sensitivity and innate knowledge of composition that made for arresting, if not melancholy experiences. A Stitch in Time

We've been a bit obsessed with The High Line since it opened late last year. Its causally perfect landscaping--inspired by the indigenous plant life of the tracks--blends perfectly with the newer elements of glass, steel, wood and poured concrete that make organic pathways, rolling lounges and dramatic entrances. These elements are stitched together like a quilt from times past, creating new layers, palettes and shapes to explore.

Orange You Glad...

The sun is out and walking around Manhattan is a joy. We spotted some oranges at Chelsea Market a couple of weeks ago and thought how sunny they looked...the perfect motif to welcome the warm weather!

Prefab homes have come a long way since the Quonset Huts of the 1940's. While they still mean mass-produced, they can also mean high design--and the units can be pieced together in unique ways to suit different lifestyles and locations. Here are some of our desert favorites (inspired by the cacti we found in the flower district this weekend).

The Desert House Prototype by Marmol Radzinger employs four house modules and six deck modules to suit the wide desert landscape.

The itHouse by Taalman Koch Architects came to us by way of inhabitat. Just outside of Joshua Tree National Park, the home is completely off-grid, powered by soley by photovoltaic andsolar thermal technology.

Taliesin Mod.Fab is a 600 one bedroom designed by students at the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture. While set in the desert, the structure is designed to be transported on any highway.

Camilla Engman

We've been following Camilla Engman's work and blog for a few years now. There is something aspirational about the Swedish artist/illustrator's blog that keeps us hooked- the narrative of inspiration and application. Collaged, drawn, painted and photographed, there is a gestalt to Engman's life that informs us all in her daily entries.
