Memory Game

We inundate ourselves with imagery every day to produce the blog and as research for the antique business. Today, we just let one thing lead to another, putting together, from memory, images that reminded us of another. It's our stream of consciousness meets Memory game.

In a Fog...of Sugar

This weekend we had the privilege of visiting our friend Dave's Sugarhouse in action. Upon entering, we were engulfed by a dense steam that smelled a bit like cotton candy. Dave showed us how the sap darkens and thickens as it boils, moving from a clear, watery substance to the thick amber of Grade A maple syrup.

Cold sap funnels into the arch and is heated from below

The roof is customized with trap doors to release the steam

Once the sap reaches optimum temperature, it's filtered through natural fibers to eliminate the niter (or sugar sand)

We've been smitten a bit with the late twenties and thirties lately- not the chrome sofas or leaping gazelle sculptures, but the less iconic palettes and shapes of an age that seems both modern and relevant in how we view beauty and design today. It is the bridge between the Arts and Crafts Movement and Deco, Modernism and Nouveau.

We stumbled upon Interior Alchemy last night and were entranced by their collection bohemian and vintage-inspired images. So in the spirit of St. Patrick's Day, here are some of our favorites...green of course.

The Sap Runs Through New Hampshire

It's a sure sign of Spring when the sap runs in New England and the sugarhouses get fired up to produce the best Maple Syrup in the country. Our friend Dave, a true Renaissance Man, invited us to see the new arch in his sugarhouse and give us a brief overview of the process. We think, with no bias, that Dave's is some of the most amazing syrup we've ever had, so we jumped at the chance. Here's what we saw:
